Southern Rocks 2018

Posting to this blog has come almost to a standstill. For good reason. Whilst in only my forth term as a Head Teacher, with the energetic support of David Rogers, we have decided to host Southern Rocks 2018 #srocks18. When I am not focusing on the duties of being a Head teacher, I am working on the conference.

On Saturday I reflected on a busy week. 317 emails, 10 school walks, 6 positive / 2 could be better parent calls, 5 line meetings, 4 bus duties (2 in 2 out), 3 staff huddles before 3 staff briefings, 2 Trustee reports, 2 cover lessons, 1 line management call, SLT meeting, school tour, assembly, staff letter of thanks, just about summed up the week. A positive and productive week it was too.

On the morning commute, I manage one protracted Craig Barton podcast with Lucy Rycroft-Smith and one TES Podagogy. Both excellent, one very long and consumed over four commutes. The evenings have been dedicated to Southern Rocks 2018 planning; putting together the website mainly. Planning the page order, copying over the biographies and session descriptions, working on the branding so that the pages at least look professional. That job is now done and ready to receive delegates in early January. Catching five minutes here and there, David and I set up social media posts to maintain interest though these have been scaled back so not to annoy people.

We aim to promote conversation in advance of the conference with session descriptions and four strand forums for attendees to discuss what they plan to see in advance of the event. That an a World Cup of Ice-Cream in January with the help of Dylan’s Ice Cream. Who else can say they have bespoke ice cream flavours chosen by the conference attendees.

Meanwhile, David has been working on the logistics. The order of the event, liaising with education business support (ONVU, IPEVO, Discovery the World, Literacy Planet and this week Calls9) and tracking the ticket rewards scheme or Golden Tickets. Tonight two more Golden Tickets were issued with Ed Allchorne email reply, making it worthwhile.

Thank you very much indeed for this! Great way to start the Christmas break! All the best, Ed Allchorne

And with that… I am done.

This post went up on the 18/12. We are now SOLD OUT and meeting next week to see if we can extend the invitations to our growing waiting list. Quietly, very thankful for everyone’s generous support.
