DEAR (drop everything and read) and “getting caught reading” (a reading journal) is really picking up, together with The Wellington Academy bookmarks, which have been very well received. The bookmark turns into a book rating and book review submission form and offers a very simple way to recognise student reading. Handing in a bookmark review earns you 25 VIVO points and the chance to win further prizes.
In the final two weeks of term we had over twenty bookmarks returned, a promising start and with three “new and improved” bookmarks being released for the new term (blue, pink and orange) I am hoping that this trend will accelerate.
