Ungraded?

Ungraded?

No, not a U or #fail. Nothing so sinister. Just a puzzle in need of a solution. How to find submitted, but ungraded assignments. How to keep a track of my online marking, building up silently behind the course pages, about to unwittingly put pressure on my family time.

Now my third post championing the gradebook in Moodle, I did not expect to be digging around this feature for so long. I am reassured by other moodlers, that the ‘best’ way to learn about the gradebook, is to use it, but I would have really appreciated a helping hand, or leg up, here and there. At this point, an opportunity to learn / train with other educators would be very welcomed,. Even better, a real Moodle course permitting duplicitous roles, (that of both learner and teacher) exploring how the gradebook can be used. Tomaz Lasic / Moodle HQ is this is your radar? Do such services exist? Or is this beyond expectations?

Back to the title. Ungraded… assignments or assignments waiting to be marked. I am frustrated that to identify submitted but ungraded assignments, I have to enter the gradebook for that course. Like my courses, I want to be able to mark ungraded assignments across all the courses I teach. It would appear that quite a few educators think the same. What is the best solution?

Together, two forum posts address this very gradebook conundrum. The first post identifies the possible solutions, the second, the key points to consider when selecting your solution, well almost.

I have found these blocks that seem to show ready-for-grade items:

  1. Ungraded Assignments Block, 22 May 2008 – 1.9
  2. Marking Block (consolidated), 10 August 2007 – 1.8
  3. notgraded (no screenshot), 14 November 2008 – 1.9
  4. FN – Marking Interface 20 January 2010 – 1.9 and
  5. AJAX Marking Block 22 November 2009 – 1.9

It might be the ‘notgraded’ block you are using, the others do not use the grade icon that is shown on your screenshot?
But there is a lot to investigate – any (other) recommendations?

Mostly it is a matter of personal preference. Each displays the list of assignments and students in a slightly different way.

Some show the appearance in the documentation others don’t. The only sure way is to try each one until you find one which works best for you and your situation.
Sorry to be vague.

Thanks Bente, Martin. I think I will start with Ungraded Assignments Block. Unless Bente or the Moodle community suggest otherwise? Is it part of Moodle 2.0?
