It always starts with an idea. I was trying to use a WordPress app, Sociofluid with this blog but it didnt seem to work with this theme. Disappointed, I looked for other bookmarking plugin that that might enables readers of this blog to share posts in turn with their networks. Not that I was expecting my many people woudl want to share my ICT and middle leadership musing, but its the thought that counts.
So then the penny dropped. Our Moodle front page, like many schools Moodle front page, showcases our subject areas with icons. Easily/large clickable (is that a word) icons linking to courses… but what if these icons were much smaller? That would free up space for much needed prime space for school communications. Sociofluid influence my thinking and the ‘Moodledock‘ idea surfaced.
The icons were shrunk, open code sourced and then I hit a brick wall. Without any coding experience myself, my eagerness to pursue this idea led to @MoodleDan via a Twitter post. He has been fantastic, helping our team bring this idea to our Moodle. One of technicians re-designed the Humbugs backpacks breifcases and the other worked with MoodleDan code. There was a breif stumble with IE Compatiability Mode, but its been resolved.
Comments have been added to the code and we will shortly be in a position to share Moodledock with others. schools who want to use it. Not that I know how to officially share it, just yet, but I will find out. Afterall, I know a man, that knows how….. Thanks to MoodleDan, our team here @Hamble College and the Digital Leaders that reviewed it for us.
Hi Kristian – it’s really nice and (subject to flexibility) something many schools could use. All being well I hope to include it (and the requisite jQuery) in the next version of the Moodle theme – plus extending it with a number of different icon sets for primary, some other secondary…
Kudos to everyone involved, nice work!

We are putting the zip folder and instructions together. It would be really beneficial to the users who have mouse control difficulties (primaries / motor control). Hope to have it ready for the end of the week.
Sorry it took so long, but zip help is now available.

Hi
I’m just developing and learning all about Moodle, and love your icon bar, I’ve no problems developing the graphic icons (20 years in the industry) but I have no idea about code etc, but I know some people who do, the posts here seem to be old, and I am wondering if you are ready to share this further, many thanks, hope we can use this.
The plugin is on the Moodle site. I am pleased you like it. Its all open. Help yourself. As for code, thats certainly not my strength either. Our Moodle admin plugged it with the help of @moodledan. Regards.
BTW, visited Hong Kong a few years back. A fantastic experience, what a vibrant city.
