Developing policy was the easy part. Implementation is far harder.
Three or four years ago, my then Headteacher informed me that I should “get to know politics a little better”. I clearly recall that those words of advice were hardly appetising and yet this first week of the holidays has seen me devour ‘Education, Education, Education’ – Adonis’s personal and politically anchored account of academisation (should that be a capitalised?) and blunt rejection of comprehensives. The book was an end of year gift and now second prompt from my headteacher, Principal, to “get to know politics a little better”.
Education, Education, Education – Reforming England’s Schools is, ostensibly, Adonis’ personal and reflective account of political endeavour, tactics and stratagems for keeping the academy agenda on track. For any aspiring school leader working in, or applying for posts at an Academy, it is time well spent.

Effective management is essential corollary of school autonomy.
It was governance, independence, leadership, ethos and standards.
… no excuses for poor behaviour, high aspirations, depth before breadth, high emphasis on data assessment of pupil tracking schools within schools.
Without data you’re just another person with an opinion. – Andreas Schleicher OECD
