Quick tip of IF.
Whilst you should use the walkthrough feature to take you to certain points in the game, in the early stages I found it quick and easy to just move the player manually to where I needed to test. Of course, where game actions, objects or player status attributes define player progression in the game, the walk through as the way forward. For examples, I may not let Lil Red get on the bus without sufficient money to pay for a ticket, it would be pointless to just move her to that point in the game.

Your post sounds interesting, but I really wasn’t able to follow exactly what your point was. Can you elucidate?
thanks
With Quest, there is of course the availability of creating walkthroughs to test different pathways through the game. However, with Quest you have a game tree on the left side of the editor UI. If I wished to test a room, I would simply drag and drop or move the ‘player’ to that room so that the game started where I needed to investigate. Thanks so much for the comment, its great to have to think through the post. (It was a little too general wasn’t it).
