I not sure how, or when, I stumbled upon World Teacher Day. With five schools, here and in China, I took it as an opportunity to connect the Wellington Family of Schools and to celebrate and thank our staff. Cressida Henderson (Assistant Headteacher at Wellington College) and I discussed a range of opportunities to celebrate / thank our staff and we agreed messages from pupils were more appropriate than handwritten letters or postcards from senior staff. Add to that, I do like the simplicity of a postcard. I’ve had Year 7s writing postcards back to their Primary Schools following transition. I have shared postcard designs with Paul Dix for outstanding pupil work and The Wellington Academy SLT has adopted the “Going the extra mile” postcards to recognise staff that… go the extra mile. A World Teacher Day postcard and display seemed the way to go.
The response has been very positive.
I just wanted you to know the impact WTD has had at our Academy. A covert effort saw students write their teachers postcards of thanks.
Missfod on Twitter: “@KristianStill organises this – students say thank you to their teachers. Brilliant way to start the day 🙂 http://t.co/YrpDaUzyec”

As you can read my colleagues responses, in turn, made a real impact on me too.
One colleagues, I owe a huge debt of gratitude. My covert guerrilla co-organiser.
