5A*-C or Progress 8? Just a remind to myself,
When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure. – Goodhart’s law
Though Progress 8 may be a broader measure of achievement, it is still a measure. As Goodhart also contributed,
Any observed statistical regularity will tend to collapse once pressure is placed upon it for control purposes. – Goodhart
I not expecting Progress 8 to collapse or crumble, but it will be influenced by the focused placed upon. The curriculum will change? I recall reading back this time last year that 56% of schools had started making changes to prepare for the measures. How will it change?
What will happen to the number of GCSE per student?
What will happen to the entry profiles for subjects? For language, Science, triple Science and Computer Science?
Will schools still promote core provision? How will vocational subjects fair, or fade?
How will leadership teams address unfilled slot?
Questions posed, answers to follow in due course.
