One generation plants the trees, and another gets the shade.
Back on the VLE again I am afraid. I am busy writing interactive resources and setting extended learning tasks for the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ section on the VLE. Our team have been slow to adopt the VLE and where I can repurpose resources I still have to convert them from traditional Word and Powerpoint documents. On the positive side, I am finding writing the quizzes and extended learning tasks is helping me understand the play (Yes, I will be asking students to create quizzes as well). I am also aware that the time I am investing now, will be to the benefit of all the department and all staff that join the department in the future.
When is the best time to plant a tree? Ten years ago.
Next, there are four self-assigned School Improvement Groups available through the CPD programme this year. The educational technology group is over-subscribed. This was a pleasant surprise in itself, but what stuck a cord was that nearly everyone from our English Department selected this option. Now I accept for the benefit and balance of the Department we may need to redirect some staff – this still lifted my spirits. I do not wish to go back and point fingers as to why the VLE has not been more fully utilised (I might not like the answer) but I can lead and promote its use from this point forward. I accpet the first 12 months, VLE adoption has been moderate, are these signs we are about to move into second gear?
