Windows 7 built in tool ‘Record a Problem’ (RaP, as I have fonderly nicknamed it) is a fantastic tool in its own right but I have other ideas for it!
Briefly, is you have a problem, ‘Record a Problem’ allows you can capture the steps you are taking. This allows the user to send it as a single zip folder with all the screenshots and steps to a the network manager anyone, who knows how to solve it.
From the search under Control Panel, type ‘Record a problem.’ You will get a Problem Steps screen recorder.
Click Start Record and proceed with the steps that led to a problem or failure of a program….. The program will record all the screen shots and each individual click that you made. You can also add a comment. When you click Stop Record, it will ask for a location to save the .mht (MHTML format) file which will be zipped. You can view this file in Internet Explorer. Thats a RaP.
This is great software for ‘howto’ demos. Easily convertable to ‘howto’ worksheets if needed. What I really like about the output is the program highlights the areas of the screenshot you click on with a green highlight out line. I shared the idea with our E-Resources manager who was pleasantly surprised.
